During a “Women for Hillary” rally today in Blue Bell, a Philadelphia suburb, Hillary Clinton reminded the largely female crowd at the Montgomery County Community College gym, in a not too subtle reminder of the first female President possibility of her candidacy, that April 22 is Equal Pay Day.
She tied in healthcare to this economic message as well.
For women, healthcare is a constant worry. You never can have it far from your mind, can you? Because you think about it all the time, ‘What happens if–?’ You know, I’m the designated worrier in my family and most women I know assume that role and the piece of mind that is never there because, can you let your son or your daughter play sports if you don’t have health insurance? What if something happens?
Great bread and butter issue to one of her core constituencies.
Hillary deserves the support of her “older” and “female” constituency that has been so loyal to her precisely for speeches like this one. More candidates should pay attention to women and their lives and responsibilities, not just the “woman candidate.” We do vote now, you know. And Hillary is right. Just because women are firmly in the public sphere now does not take away their responsibilities in the private sphere of their homes and families. A tip o’ the hat to Hillary for this one.
Matt – I was at this rally today. Very impressive. I will post some pictures and opinions tomorrow. I’m looking forward to seeing Obama during his tour. This is just great history in the making and I love being part of it!
