All Politics, All the Time…

A little while ago people would at least talk about Pitt’s chances in March Madness, but now even that distraction is gone and all I hear about is the contest for the Democratic nomination.

There are a lot of Hillary supporters here in Pittsburgh, supposedly, although everywhere I have been lately all I see is Obama everywhere. I see signs and stickers all over the place endorsing Obama.  Not to mention the Obama pins I saw on lapels, hats, even a baby carrier.  (That baby gets points for being the youngest Obama supporter I saw, although his mom said with a twinkle in her eye that the pin was there to annoy her husband, who was a McCain fan).

I work in a community with a large African American presence and the neatest thing about this election is the energy it has brought to that neighborhood.  Barack Obama has given the usually economically and socially depressed area a new shine.  For that reason alone, I’m glad he and Hillary both are running for President this term.  Even if neither wins the general election in November, the fact they have both gotten to this point in the process means things have significantly changed in this country.
