From Senator Sheldon Whitehouse:
The Bush administration has disgraced the Environmental Protection Agency and dishonored its responsibilities. It was a bleak afternoon in that a recapitulation of that litany is a sad thing to hear and the fact that they did not have the courage to come and even defend their records, as I suppose is understandable, is extremely unfortunate and arrogant.
It’s not clear that there’s much left to be done in the case of EPA Administrator Johnson, we’ve already called for his resignation. His record over there is abominable and he will leave it in disgrace, deserved disgrace, but since the President doesn’t care about these issues and values loyalty more than competence all the way back to ‘Heck-of-a-Job-Brownie’ it’s hard to think that we’ll have to do anything other than ride out the remainder of this very sad term.
I think this was a real low point in the history of the Environmental Protection Agency, in many respects a low point in the history of our country’s government.
