Police, Community Leaders Battle Youth Violence With Peaceful Events – Pittsburgh News Story – WTAE Pittsburgh

From are teaming up to try to deal with it through fun activities aimed at kids:

Before the end of 2008, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office says more than 100 young people will have been killed in the county because of violence.
The medical examiner’s also says over the past 15 years violence has claimed the lives of more than 1,500 teens and 445 teens are serving life sentences.
In an effort to combat the problem, the Police Athletic League will be coordinating eight days of performing arts productions to celebrate a “gathering of peace.”
“We’re gathering for a peace initiative that is a collaborative effort between all types of denominations of faith-based organizations in the city of Pittsburgh and the Bureau of Police in Allegheny County,” Police Chief Nate Harper said.
