Couldn’t have said this better than Democracy Lover in response to this by Barry:

I got out my super-secret Karl Rove decoder ring (which all wingnuts are issued) and learned that “community organizer” means “n**ger.” I’m not sure if Jesus was a “community organizer” or not.

Democracy Lover:

Jesus sure brought people together and taught them to help others, so Jesus was most definitely a community organizer. Of course, He and his community were non-White, so perhaps Barry has a point.

Using secret code words to pull in the racist vote has been a Republican strategy since the Nixon days. It’s the only kind of bigotry they bother to hide. Hating gays, liberated women and educated people are all out in the open – it’s only their hatred of black people that has to remain in the closet.

It’s so wonderful that the most avid followers of the Prince of Peace are supporters of warmongers.

their work, and that of former colleague Barack Obama, as they fought back yesterday against a series of gibes by speakers at the Republican convention. Organizers described themselves as an antidote to the influence of big-money lobbyists. They cited helping the powerless join forces to demand better schools and safer streets, often by working through churches.

If people in [elected] office were doing their jobs, perhaps we wouldn’t need community organizers,” said John Baumann, executive director of PICO National Network. Joshua Hoyt, executive director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, said, “I don’t like seeing the really hard work that goes on in really poor communities being demeaned by cheap politicians. “Community organizing is as American as democracy.”

There was also significant rebuttal of the community organizer mocking by Palin and Giuliani by CBS News last night whose panel viewed it either as an attack/joke on the poor, which Schieffer strongly objected to, or as a ham-handed and off-script way to wedge rural and urban voters. It was also noted, though, that Karl Rove was still using it in interviews throughout the day, making the former explanation more likely.

John Rich and Gretchen Wilson are no Stevie Wonder in my book. He actually sounded a little flat to me while singing the National Anthem. But, this does remind me that, in spite of the Brooks & Dunn at the end of the Democratic Convention, the music is so different. Last week we heard from Sheryl Crow, U2, The Boss and Stevie Wonder, but this week it’s country and more country. It reminds me of that line from the Blues Brothers when they go to that country bar asking what kind of music they usually have. The reply is something like “Oh, both kinds. We have Country and Western.”

For all the talk of national unity, it really is like two different worlds at times.

USA Today previews Gov. Palin’s speech tonight by former White House speechwriter Matt Scully with this:

Call it McCain’s Gamble. The Republican presidential candidate is pulling bigger crowds and a gusher of cash to his campaign since his unexpected pick Friday of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. But questions about how rigorously John McCain vetted Palin and fresh scrutiny of the governor’s record are fueling a larger debate about McCain’s shoot-from-the-hip style and Palin’s qualifications, in a crisis, to be president.

…

‘She’s going to talk to the delegates about the future of this country, about how to reform broken institutions of government,’ says McCain strategist Steve Schmidt. ‘People will hear about her reform-and-change message’ and about energy and its links to national security. ‘She’ll also communicate directly to the American people who she is,’ Schmidt says.”

The Washington Post adds:

In the speech, Palin is likely to emphasize her areas of policy expertise — particularly energy and political reform — rather than focusing on her biography or gender. An initial version of the address, which speechwriter Matthew Scully started crafting a week ago for an unnamed male vice-presidential pick, included plenty of attacks aimed at Democratic nominee Barack Obama along with ample praise for McCain, aides said. But they said Palin’s speech will focus more on substantive matters.

Perhaps you already saw this. Perhaps you already know this. But, quite frankly superdelegates are new to me, and there is a whole lot more to them. My friend emailed this article about Superdelegates to me this morning and I found it to be an intersting read. My memory of conventions, back in the day, are people yelling, cigar smoke, newscasters being escorted off the floor, riots, Chicago, and Mayor Daley, all mushed together like one big bowl of Political soup. I’m just sure, though, I would have remembered Superdelegates flying in with their capes, landing on the bandwagon du jour. Having read this article, though, I do feel better that I didn’t know everything about these critters because there is just too much to know and apparently none of it helps Oklahoma.
