One of the reasons why many speculate that Obama has more superdelegates lined up to vote for him than his current list of pledged super delegates is due what I witnessed during last night’s Obama rally in Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center.

Both Jason Altmire and Mike Doyle sat in the VIP section of the event. Altmire attended the previous Pittsburgh Obama rally. Quite simply, you don’t attend these events as visibly as these guys do if you’re not supporting the candidate. My hunch is that after the Pennsylvania primary ends, Obama will snag the public endorsements of both Rep. Altmire and Rep. Doyle. By the way, Doyle is an interesting get for Obama, because his mentor, Rep. Jack Murtha, is a big Clinton supporter. Plus, he’s my Congressman.

No matter how important we in Pennsylvania may think our primary on April 22nd is to the Democratic Presidential nomination, it will have little impact among the Democratic Party superdelegates. In speaking to a great many of the undecided superdelegates, USA Today and Gannett News Service say that

Dozens of uncommitted superdelegates with sway over the Democratic presidential nomination say Pennsylvania’s primary on Tuesday won’t be the decisive factor in their choice between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Instead, they told USA TODAY and Gannett News Service, they will choose by July 1, a deadline suggested by Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean. Superdelegates are party leaders and elected officials with an automatic vote at the national convention.

Perhaps you already saw this. Perhaps you already know this. But, quite frankly superdelegates are new to me, and there is a whole lot more to them. My friend emailed this article about Superdelegates to me this morning and I found it to be an intersting read. My memory of conventions, back in the day, are people yelling, cigar smoke, newscasters being escorted off the floor, riots, Chicago, and Mayor Daley, all mushed together like one big bowl of Political soup. I’m just sure, though, I would have remembered Superdelegates flying in with their capes, landing on the bandwagon du jour. Having read this article, though, I do feel better that I didn’t know everything about these critters because there is just too much to know and apparently none of it helps Oklahoma.

AP has been announcing that the beloved former mayor dropped her Clinton support, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Mackenzie Carpenter has this: Former Pittsburgh Mayor Sophie Masloff, 90, who is undecided,...

AP has been announcing that the beloved former mayor dropped her Clinton support, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Mackenzie Carpenter has this:

Former Pittsburgh Mayor Sophie Masloff, 90, who is undecided, says she’s been courted assiduously, deluged with calls from both sides.

“It’s very difficult to make a decision now,” said Mrs. Masloff, who denied reports that she had supported Mrs. Clinton earlier before deciding, in effect, to undecide. “But I may end up supporting her [Mrs. Clinton] before long.”

The Masloff support clarification matters in the national superdelegate tallying, but the story takes a decidedly different tone regarding “momentum” in the race whether she “dropped” support or never actually supported her in the first place.
